You can board the train to Gornergrat from the station in the center of the car-free town of Zermatt. The 30-minute ride will take you from an altitude of 1,605 m to 3,089 m, up to the Gornergrat ridge making a few stops on the way.
The ride in one of the most dramatic landscapes of the Swiss Alps is quite exhilarating, as it will take you to the Matterhorn and its surrounding Alpine peaks peaks. The Matterhorn is the pyramid shaped mountain that inspired Toblerone. It is not for mountaineering and skiing fans though as the views are truly remarkable.
It costs around 114CHF for a round trip but if you could buy a group (10) ticket it could be around 85CHF.
