When a two-star Chef drops out to do his own thing in his own terms, people listen. No phone reservations, no credit cards, no emails. No degustations. No fancy proteins. Just simple French food in a tight space next to 20 other diners. It is a very tight space so be aware that you will be dining literary with others.
Dominique le Stanc left his two Michelin stars at the restaurant Le Chantecler to run this little place La Merenda, in the heart of Nice. On the day of the visit we had the rocket, fig salad, the onion tart, the beef stew, the fishstock, the pasta and the pork intestines. The chef send us a little tasting of the fishstock ahead which was very kind of him as it was a bit spicy for us. We loved the onion tart and the pesto pasta were excellent. We wished we also had the sausage with potatoes.
In a few words, La Merenda is as French and as fresh as it gets...
