Situated inside the luxurious Balmoral hotel, Hadrian’s Brasserie is the gourmet version of brasseries. It’s ambience was rather quiet hotel-ly type and refined. Lots of business people and hotel residents seemed to be enjoying their Monday lunch there. On the day of the visit, for starters we had the Balmoral smoked salmon, which was carved in front of us from a seafood trolley accompanied by a choice of 4 dips, and an excellent Steak tartare, hand-cut. For mains we had the Roast letham chicken breast-mushrooms, forestiere, concotte potatoes and the Seared fillet of cod - cod brandade, smoked paprika alioli, spinach. All of the above choices were perfectly prepared and well presented. As they should. For desserts, we had the flambee with a dram of Balmoral scotch whisky prepared in front of us and a Dark chocolate hazel pralina, jerk coffee. This elegant option of a rather casual brasserie dining ranks truly among the finest in Edinburgh...
