Even though Edinburgh Castle is not as big as other castles in Europe (such as Carcassonne castle in France), this hill fortress is still one of the most impressive castles in the world.
Maybe it is because it surprises you. If you are unprepared for it, and you just look up from a distance, it dominates the landscape and takes you by surprise. Maybe it’s because it is in the lovely Scotland, the country that suffered battles and sieges and rulers and came out a winner. Or maybe it’s because of Braveheart the movie and William Wallace, the local hero. Whatever the reason is, Edinburgh Castle is a glorious castle.
