Situated in the heart of the old city, the small, local, "independent" as they call it restaurant, is adjacent to Ediburgh's main street, Green Mile (leading to the castle). The area occupied by Blackfriars is probably no more than 30 square meters including the small bar area near the entrance.
Though it is definitely not the average tourist destination, yet Blackfriars had a few tourists (who did their homework) and a handful of local students on the day of the visit.
Our lunch consisted of the three course meal which included a huge fresh crab (which took an hour to endeavor). Bread served was also quite memorable for bread! Don't expect any fancy cooking techniques at the Blackfriars but do expect fresh local food in an honest and simple presentation.
The bill for this delicious, simple, no fuzz meal, came to a modest £40 pounds for two, which makes amazing value for money!
