Judging by its prominent location on the Scheldt river's bank, one would assume that Het Steen was the Summer Palace for Medieval Royalty. However, Het Steen was a medieval fortress, turned prison, turned museum of archeology, turned water museum for kids. There are also some scheduled activities for educating kids in the form of workshops. But you won't be impressed by its current status, as it seems in need of some love and life. You can however stroll along the waterfront promenade or wander through the Het Steen courtyards. And don't miss the giant bogeyman statue at the entrance.
