Categorized as a Cathar castle (it was a refuge for Cathar deacons), the Château de Puilaurens is situated on a Pyrenees mountain in the South of France, near Lapradelle and Puilaurens villages. There is a long history behind it, going back to the Cathar wars and to Guillaume de Peyrepertuse.
If you are driving up there, it does appear daring to those afraid of heights. It is a 20 minutes steep walk, after you park your car. So, it is safe to assume that visiting the Chateau de Puilaurens is not suitable for people who are not so fit and could be dangerous for young kids.
There are, however, breathtaking green views of the mountain site from up there and what is left of the castle ruins of course, which is just walls.
