Graslei and Korenlei are two pedestrian streets which lie along the banks of the old harbour of Ghent, right in the middle of the city.
Combining its medieval port with its unique historical buildings along the river, Graslei has managed to become a meeting point for lunch, coffee or simply a walk by the water. Every house there, particularly on the Graslei, is unique and has its own history. Together they are live proof of Ghent's incredible economic blossom and prosperity during the Middle Ages.
Walking down the steps, east of St Michielsbrug Bridge you are in Graslei. For a better view, however, you can go to the other side of the river, Korenlei. All that remains of some of the original buildings is the outer walls. Sit there and take your time to admire the beauty that all the surrounding houses can offer.
