Put the GPS on and off you go to an amazing sight, one of the truly remarkable places you will ever see. Huge mountains of sand unveil before your eyes, right next to the sea. Climb the stairs all the way to the top of Dune du Pilat for a wonderful view (not for the ill-hearted). Almost surreal. Watch those shoes though; best bet is your flip flops and lots of cold water. And do try a sunset visit for better colors and less crowds. Though it's a free ride, you gotta pay for your parking.
Picture this: 60,000,000 m³, measuring around 500 m wide from east to west and 2.7 km in length from north to south. Height at 110 metres above sea level. It is a mountain of sand, a dessert. Right in front of the ocean. Now you understand why Dune du Pilat attracts a million visitors per year.
